The richly coloured and highly figured mahogany case with finely moulded top to the arch top case, canted angles to the hood.
Conforming angles flanking the richly flame veneered slender moulded trunk door over the panel plinth with continuing flame veneer.
Cast silvered sight-ring to the 12” round painted Roman dial with subsidiary seconds and signed ‘Benjamin Lautier/Bath’. Finely cut blued steel hands.
Eight day movement with anchor escapement and striking the hours on a bell.
Brass pendulum and brass cased weights.

Benjamin Lautier is recorded working in Bath from 1790-1848. He was succeeded by his widow Charlotte.
This clock displays many of the fine proportions and qualities to those found in London .In British Longcase Clocks (p. 161, figure 214) Derek Roberts illustrates a London longcase clock by William Pitt, London, in an almost identical case. This is not surprising as London and Bath were well connected at this period and Benjamin Lautier had a partnership making ships chronometers with Vigne, a fine London maker.
