Antique Mahogany Eight Day Single Fusee Timepiece 10” Dial Clock

A beautifully crafted antique mahogany eight day single fusee timepiece 10” dial clock made by George M Hammer and Co., The Strand, London. This clock is designed to run for eight days on a single winding of the mainspring. The clock features a single fusee mechanism, a type of gearing system that helps regulate the speed at which the clock runs.

George M Hammer and Co. was a well regarded clockmaker based in The Strand, London during the 19th century and their clocks are still prized by collectors today. The case is solid mahogany with a dovetailed back box with lower and side access doors, glazed and hinged brass bezel with inner silvered sight ring. The stunning 10” diameter painted Roman dial is signed ‘Geo. M. Hammer & Co., School Furnishers, 370 Strand, London, W.C.’

This clock boasts substantial plates to a single line fusee movement with anchor escapement and a heavy lead filled brass pendulum, with blued steel hands. ‘Blued steel hands’ refers to the hands on a clock that have been treated with heat to achieve a blue colour. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, this also reduces glare and makes it easier to read the time in varying lighting conditions. Blued steel hands are often considered a mark of quality and craftsmanship in the clockmaking industry.

This clock is a true work of art, combining beauty and function in a way that is both timeless and enduring. It is testament to the enduring appeal of fine craftsmanship and classic design, and is sure to be a cherished and treasured possession for generations to come.

There are the usual minor marks and light surface blemishes that one would expect from a working clock of this period, however, there is no significant damages or repairs. There is the old and expecting fine cracking where the back box case joints have moved over the century. These are a good sign that the clock is in very original condition.

What our customers say

I have used The Clock Clinic previously before moving away from the area. I required a replacement clock face for a family heirloom and initially sought help from a shop in Surrey which turned out to be extremely unhelpful, dismissive and rude. I called the Clock Clinic, and Elly could not have been more helpful!  Elly spent time researching our problem, found another solution which was spot on for us, but did not result in a "sale" for them. Real "above and beyond" service, absolutely brilliant.  Highly recommend.

Highly professional and courteous service from the Clock Clinic.  Serviced one Baume & Mercier watch in a timely manner, replacing a used strap with a good-looking replacement. Repaired another (when others couldn't) and got it working without any attempt to "up-sell" services.  Much appreciated, I would recommend Alastair, Hilary and the team.

Best watch experts in London. I took my Emporio Armani watch to get the screen repaired to multiple watch shops and they were unable to have it fixed. I even sent it back to the manufacturer and they were unable to repair it. I brought it into the Clock Clinic and they were able to repair the watch in a timely manner for a great price. Friendly and expert service. I recommend this place to anyone. Thanks team!
