    A stylish and unusual Art Deco Jaeger LeCoultre gilt brass and black glass eight day mantel clock. Presented by Societe Maritime J. Pequin in 1952. The clock has a circular gilded case with an opaque black glass dial showing 12 and 24 hours and signed 'Jaeger'. The arrow hands are gilt brass. With a rear wound and set movement, this clock is raised on a turned base with rear presentation engraving. This beautiful clock in Art Deco style would look wonderful in any setting and is designed for a desk, table or mantelpiece.

The mahogany has a wonderful warm colour and figuring to the vaneers. Circa 1880, it was created in the original Empire style.  The fascination in Egyptology accounts for the bronze sphinx. The inclusion of sphinxes on furniture throughout the 1800's were popular with the French gentry as they celebrated Napoleon’s conquest of Egypt.
