Vintage Omega Seamaster Memomatic, Model Ref. 166.072. Automatic winding calibre 980 movement. This is an excellent example of a fast appreciating watch model.
Stainless steel tonneau case with brushed sunburst finish, screw down case back signed ‘Seamaster’ and with engraved hippocampus. Hesalite glass with central Omega logo. Omega winding crown, inset date change pusher and three position alarm control button.
The dial is signed ‘Omega Memomatic’ and has a black and grey chapter ring with raised baton hour markers, date square at III position, alarm setting dial for hours and minutes to the centre.
The black and white luminescent main hands and orange centre seconds hand are all original.
The Memomatic ref. 166.072 was introduced by Omega in 1969. With a sizeable stainless steel case, measuring 40mm in width (excluding the crown), the case is detailed with a combination of satin and polished finishes. The model uses the highly complex Omega calibre 980 movement. Unusually the movement has a single barrel that controls the power for both the time and alarm functions. This means that the automatic rotor will provide all the power required for the watch to operate.
Made in: | Switzerland |
Materials: | Stainless steel with leather strap |
Age: | Circa 1975 |
Condition: | The case is in very good unpolished condition. The original sunburst grained finish is in good condition with only the expected light marks and surface scratches that are very typical for this model given its age and use. The case back again has general minor marks and surface scratches but no significant damages. The glass is original Omega Hesalite and has the Omega logo to the centre. The dial is very striking with its black and grey colour palate and the orange hands sets to whole off rather nicely. It is in good condition, as are the hands. The movement has been fully serviced and is running well and keeping good time. The alarm functions correctly and how it should. |
