With the figure of Cupid floating upon the clouds and gazing lovingly towards the demure figure of Psyche with a faithful hunting dog between them and the Eternal Flame burning at their feet

Ormolu floral garland and beaded hinged bezel to the white enamel Arabic dial with sword hilt half hour markers and pierced and engraved hands

Twin barrels movement with anchor escapement and striking the hours and half hours on a delicate bell

CONDITON: 		The case is in excellent general condition with only age related minor marks and surface scratches. The original gilding is bright and clean with no visible wear and only light tarnishing. The enamel dial is almost perfect with only very minor and ting chipping around the winding holes. The movement has been fully cleaned and overhauled. It is running well, keeping time within +/- 5 minutes per week This finely executed 19th-century Louis XVII ormolu and marble clock depicting Cupid and Psyche is a stunning piece of decorative art and horology. Louis XVII style, also known as Louis Seize, was a revival of the ornate and opulent aesthetic of the Louis XV era, characterised by intricate detailing, lavish ornamentation, and a focus on Rococo motifs. The combination of ormolu with marble creates a visually striking contrast between the gleaming golden bronze and the smooth, cool surface of the marble. The theme of Cupid and Psyche is a popular motif in art and literature, symbolising love, desire, and the soul's journey towards union and fulfilment. This handsome clock depicting this theme, Cupid, the god of love, and Psyche, his mortal lover is surrounded by symbolic elements such as floral garlands, roses, the eternal flame and the ever faithful hunting dog.
